The version of S1000D that you use should depends on the following factors:
a) The version that is specified in the Business Rules for the project (decided by the requirements of the contract).
b) The versions that will meet your project requirements. Each version of the specification has subtle differences and functionality available for projects to use. The latest version of the S1000D specification that has been released will not always be the best solution for every project.
One of the questions you should ask, to help with your choice, is "what is it we are trying to gain from using S1000D?"
If I find something that needs to be changed or if I have an improvement for the S1000D specification, how do I get it included?
Each country has a working group of volunteers that works with the S1000D Steering Committee, working groups and task teams that work with the specification and does the improvements for it.
If you have noticed that there are corrections that need to be made or if you have a suggestion for improvement, you can submit a Change Proposal Form (CPF) to your specific country's working group and they will submit it on your behalf.
