Australian Aerospace selects ADG’s R4i S1000D CSDB Server for MRH90

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

Australian Aerospace has selected ADG’s R4i CSDB Server suite for the production of ASD S1000D hardcopy manuals for the ADF’s new Multi Role Helicopter, the MRH90.

The selection of R4i for the MRH90 program leverages the existing R4i system which is used by Australian Aerospace to produce Interactive Electronic Technical Manual’s (IETM’s) for the Army’s ARH Tiger.  The MRH90 can carry 18 fully-equipped troops or 4,000kg of under slung load, plus four crew. Cruise speed is 300km/h and maximum range is over 900km.

It has state-of-the-art technology, a composite fuselage, a rear ramp enabling a small vehicle to be loaded, a full fly-by-wire control system and a digital cockpit.  The helicopter is fully marinised and thus able to operate from Royal Australian Navy amphibious ships.

“ADG are pleased to welcome the Australian Aerospace MRH90 project as a new customer in the region, and look forward to supporting the Australian Aerospace program’s in the delivery of PDF and IETP’s to our Defence Forces.  These are first class programs and we are proud of our association with Australian Aerospace”, said Absolute Data Group’s CEO, Tammy Halter.

Boeing Defence Australia to present at DefDoc 2010

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Kevin Spink spent 23 years with British Army Aviation, serving operationally throughout the world.  Kevin has worked with Boeing Defence Australia since 2004 carrying out various specialist roles in the area of Technical Publications, including AEW&C Ground Support Senior Technical Writer and the AEW&C Systems and Quality Co-ordinator.  Kevin has recently assumed the position of Boeing Defence Australia’s Technical Data Manager.

About Kevin’s Presentation:

One of the claims of S1000D is that it can be easily applied to legacy data.  Recently a small team from Boeing Defence Australia have been involved in a Scoping Study to determine the feasibility of converting ATA iSpec 2200 manuals to S1000D.

This insightful presentation describes the real time approach taken by this team to convert over 8,000 individual maintenance tasks contained in 26,000 pages of an ATA iSpec 2200 Aircraft Maintenance Manual to S1000D.

The presentation will highlight both the similarities and the differences between the S1000D and ATA iSpec structured data including the break out of chunks of ATA data into Data Modules, the re-usability of those Data Modules, the creation of the DMRL, the assignment of DMCs and the mapping of the ATA Data to the S1000D Procedural Schemas.

Latest DefDoc 2010 Conference News and Program

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Join your Defence and Industry peers at DefDoc 2010 (May 19-20, Melbourne). This specialist event provides a forum to share information on initiatives, future intentions and common issues regarding the creation, management and delivery of training, ASD STE-100, PLCM and technical documentation to Australia’s Defence Forces and Industry.

Latest News – UK Technical specialist to present

Dr. Timothy M. King, CEng MIMechE CITP MBCS PhD DIC ACGI, has extensive international experiences in through-life information exploitation to support high value, complex assets.

Since 1986, Tim has participated extensively in applying computer software to support the engineering process. He is a Principal Consultant at LSC Group (UK), where he has worked since 1998. He is a Chartered Engineer (Institution of Mechanical Engineers) and a Chartered Information Technology Professional (British Computer Society).

About Tim’s Presentation

Effective and efficient decision making is the fundamental business capability that drives the requirement for information interoperability and integration.

This interoperability and integration is more extensive if underpinned by open, neutral standards. Such standards include STEP and PLCS for engineering data (ISO 10303) and ASD S1000D for technical documentation.

These standards have been the subject of extensive investment and support from the UK Defence enterprise, within both the MOD and Industry.

The Defence enterprise is now ready to take full advantage of the standards and has built an understanding of how to address the associated practical issues through early examples of implementation.

These examples have already begun to demonstrate the achievability of the promised business benefits. These benefits will grow as implementation becomes more widespread.
