12th October 2009 9:00 amto15th October 2009 5:30 pm

This years ASD S1000D User Forum was held at Hilton Head in South Carolina, USA. The ADG team were on hand as exhibitors and also attended the technical sessions. The theme for this year’s forum was:

“S1000D: Realizing the Benefits of Integrated Logistics Support”

With a better than expected turnout of nearly 360 delegates from across the globe, it made for a very interesting, informative and action packed user forum. It was also great to see the small contingent of Australians who travelled all the way across the pond to attend.

There were presentations on the use of S2000M – Materials Management, in current projects, to the introduction of 4 new specifications being release by ASD:

  1. S1003X – The S1000D to S3000L Interchange Specification
  2. S3000L – Logistic Support Analysis
  3. S4000M – The Procedure handbook for the development of scheduled maintenance programs
  4. S5000F – The International specification for operational and maintenance feedback.  The way ahead is going to be very interesting for many new projects

There were some exceptional presentations given from existing programs, it gave the delegates that have not yet started on this adventure, a realistic idea of what to expect. From ROI and financial expenditures, to what can be expected and what not to expect from an S1000D Project.

With much work being done on the enhancement of S1000D, it is envisaged that the release of Issue 4.1 will happen towards the end of 2010.

From a vendor standpoint, ADG received an excellent delegate response to the release of Skills   M5, ADG’s SCORM compliant LMS (Learning Management System) and how it shares and links       S1000D content with training material managed by Skills M5.  Many of the delegates are also waiting for the formal release of ADG’s on-line XML authoring system – R4i Workbench.

Next year the S1000D User Forum is being held in Moscow in September 2010.

Watch this space for details on DEFDOC 2010, back in Melbourne. If you would like to suggest some dates for the conference, feel free to send them into defdoc@absolutedata.com.
